 Spinning Wheels

Ecoferme is now offering a variety of Kromski spinning wheels and equipment. The idea is to, help supply the needs of the independent smallholder, who want a more 'close to nature' way of living. By being more self-sufficient, in making a variety of garments and blankets , which are so unique, no money can buy. The Symphony is a beautiful saxony wheel. Just the image you would expect a spinning wheel to be. You can picture the "ladies in waiting" gathered together in the castle spinning as a group, all on The Symphony. This wheel has lots of finely turned wood, attention to detail, and all the features spinners ask for.

Start with a good size wheel diameter - 61cm - that rotates on bearing sleeves that contribute to effortless treadling. The double treadles are well engineered to be comfortable through long spinning sessions. The flyer is double drive but also has Scotch tensioning for single drive use (at no additional charge). The Symphony is made of European alder and birch. This is a perfect wheel for reenactors.

This wheel comes boxed as a kit and requires about an hour to assemble.

The minstrel is setting a new standard for castle style wheels with lots of wood turnings. It features a wide, steady base for the double treadle operation and the wheel, which is larger than many upright wheels - 45cm (including the Mazurka)  The wheel is easy to mount on the two support posts. The third post will mount an optional distaff.

 It is a double drive wheel but comes standard with Scotch tension set-up if your prefer the single drive feel. A threading hook and extra whorl are conveniently stored up front for easy access.

The design is perfect wheel for reenactors. Easy to assemble.

The polonaise has the look of wheels from the Baltic area of Poland and Scandinavia. In fact, a well known spinning wheel historian has said that the manner in which this wheel is built is as close to being historically correct as he has seen. This will be a plus for spinners wanting the "real thing" and for the growing community of reenactors. The amount of decorative turning on this wheel is substantial, making it a sight to behold. The level of detail and turning is breathtaking. Notice the marbling of the wood grain that is highlighted by the stain and finish. No other wheel being made today comes close to this level of detail. A spinner could pay substantially more for other wheels and still not have the beauty of this wheel.  

This wheel is great value and it spins as well as it looks.

The Polonaise features functional wood threaded wheel angle adjustments so the proper angle can be obtained with the flyer. “Pin and socket” bearings support the wheel, offering low friction and exceptional ease of treadling. All of the wheel hardware sits between the wheel posts and the footman passes through the bench to the treadle.

Mazurka

 The Mazurka as the classic look of  old eastern European wheels. One look at the detail in this wheels will astound you - what craftsmanship! Made of European alder and birch, the Mazurka features both double drive and scotch tension spinning. Additional specifications:

 The sonata is a full-size spinning wheel that folds and packs away as a small package, making it perfect for traveling, guild and festival gatherings or simply storage when not in use. Its full size yet small dimensions when folded, easy to set-up and take down, solid feel, solid footprint, plenty of foot room, easy treadling on double treadles, orifice at a comfortable height and classic looks. Spokes that draw your attention, every piece of wood with cuts, curves and character; this is an appealing spinning wheel that is a pleasure to use.

The Prelude is a traditional Saxony looking wheel. It has the look of an antique wheel and the high degree of wood turning, but it also has all the touches modern spinners expect. This wheel is suitable wheel for beginners.

The Prelude is easy to treadle, easy to transport, and has an 45cm diameter wheel (same as the Minstrel) for excellent ratios. If you like, you can swivel the mother-of-all in line with the bench for a more compact "package" when moving the wheel or for storage.

 The niddy noddie is an essential piece of equipment for spinning. Ecoferme offers the choice of three sizes for three different size skeins: 76cm, 122cm and 180cm.

 The two smaller sizes are available in walnut and mahogany. The large Niddy is available unfinished, with a clear finish, and with a walnut or mahogany stain finish.
